It is finished!

The egg baskets have been packed away, the leftover goodie bags deconstructed, the donkey put away until Christmas… and apart from the pile of chocolate on the corner of your desk, Easter is over for another year!

But before you move on to thinking about Pentecost, here are three questions to ask yourself.

1. Cross-connected: What did the children I work with really understand about the cross?

Easter is a great check-in point in the year — a chance to see how confident the children you teach regularly are in understanding and explaining the gospel.

Do they understand why Jesus had to die on a cross? Have they made a decision for themselves to follow Him? Which parts of the Easter story raised the most questions?

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures… he was buried… he was raised on the third day.”— 1 Corinthians 15:3–4

The cross is not just for Easter — but this season of focusing on it can guide what we revisit and build on in the months ahead.

Where are the gaps in understanding?Where are the moments of confusion or false pictures of God that need gently unwinding?

2. Community-connected: Who did we connect with… and what happens next?

Easter events often help us connect with new families and members of our local community — but Christmas is a long way away!

What do you need to put in place now to keep those connections going? Invitations to other events, a midweek group, or something shaped around the questions you heard?

“Go and make disciples… teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”— Matthew 28:19–20

Connection doesn’t have to mean another big event — but it does need to be timely and personal. It shows people that we want relationship, not just a moment of contact.

3. Christ connected: Where was I in the Easter story this year?

Easter is a busy season, full of planning and activity — but it is also an invitation to reflect, draw close to God, and refocus our own faith.

Take a moment to think about how connected you felt to the story. How much space did you have to engage — not as a leader, but as a follower of Jesus?

“It is finished.”— John 19:30

What would it take next year to create space for yourself? To worship without leading, to listen without organising, to encounter God without distraction?

Even if that means visiting another church, how can you make sure you don’t miss the wonder of Easter this time next year?

Moving Forward

These three questions aren’t about looking back with regret, but about moving forward with intention. As we step into the next season, we have an opportunity to keep the cross at the centre, deepen our connections, and make space to encounter God for ourselves.

Because the message of Easter was never meant to stay in one weekend — it was always meant to shape everything that comes next.
